WRNR established its
internship more than 25 years ago and it has continued to the
present. Over the years, the internship program has brought to
our station many talented students of broadcasting including
minority and female students most of whom attended Shepherd
University (Shepherdstown, WV) and West Virginia University
(Morgantown, WV) and reside in West Virginia. In the summer
and again in late fall of 2008, we advised Shepherd University
and West Virginia University that we could again have at least
one internship available from their Schools of Broadcasting. In
response, we did receive one verbal inquiry about a possible
summer internship from a broadcasting major at West Virginia
University who unfortunately did not further pursue the
internship.
Employee training programs are
ongoing year-round hosted by operations manager Matt Miller and
engineer Francis Little and deal with programming, technical
matters and on-air presence. Our sales staff meets monthly to
review new industry data, trends in sales techniques, and
printed sales information is distributed weekly.
Station personnel with
substantial responsibility for hiring decisions participated in
Career Fairs sponsored by the Martinsburg/Berkeley County
Chamber of Commerce in October, 2008 and Blue Ridge Community
and Technical College in Martinsburg in April, 2009 and
received over twenty applications from interested persons.
We occasionally aired
announcements and placed notices on our website seeking
applicants for part-time announcing and sales jobs and received
a few applications as a result.
No requests for job opening
notifications have been received from outside organizations.
Four part-time employees were
hired during this period: Roger Hamood, a Shepherd University
Communications major; Ryan Miller, Joseph Tims (a minority) and
Jerry Juliana, all with no prior experience.
